Project description

The National Interagency Biodefense Campus (NIBC) security fencing project at Fort Detrick involved the removal and replacement of an existing perimeter fence with high security yet decorative chain link fence. The project also involved the construction of a 70-foot high-security monitoring tower and the removal and replacement of pedestrian and vehicular gates. The site posed challenges when designing the new high-security monitoring tower because of the existing power transmission lines and Allegheny power substation.Soltesz worked closely with the electrical consultant to ensure the high-security monitoring tower could be safely placed on the site. Together, with extensive coordination, the tower was sited to meet all the necessary code requirements per National Electric Safety Code guidelines, while meeting the security needs of NIBC.

Soltesz also closely worked with and managed the Maryland Department of the Environment MDE expeditor for permitting, to keep the project on track meeting each scheduled milestone.
