Project description

Soltesz is providing civil engineering services at Viva White Oak, a much anticipated adaptive reuse mixed-use and bioscience village development project totaling nearly 300 acres in Montgomery County, Maryland. Adjacent to the 130-acre consolidated Food and Drug Administration (FDA) headquarters, as well as the new Washington Adventist Hospital, the world-class bioscience village will feature an academic and research collaboration campus, full-service hotel, and conference center, bio/life sciences offices, and labs, and residences. Residential and commercial use will total over 12 million square feet. The site requires particular attention to environmental concerns given its proximity to forests and streams.

Viva White Oak is comprised of several neighborhoods being defined and shaped by the planning process while being sensitive to the existing adjacent forest and Paint Branch Stream, blending the natural habit with the human habit and creating a place for all to co-exist. The site in White Oak, Maryland, formerly a WSSC facility and reclaimed Montgomery County quarry site, is truly an adaptive reuse and a Brownfield Development project. The development will include reforestation areas and environmentally design measures for the treatment of stormwater runoff, as well as nature parks and planned play green spaces.
