The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) Headquarters building is home to the largest utility company in the Washington Metropolitan area. The building is a landmark along the I-95 corridor between Baltimore and Washington DC. The sheer size of this new headquarters office building at 300,000 square feet was challenging to place on the 12-acre site. The project included site plans for the new building and parking facilities, grading and sediment control plans, extensions of the water and sewer mains, storm drainage, and stormwater management. Soltesz also provided ALTA and topographic surveying services and as-built drawings.
Soltesz capitalized on the existing site conditions maximizing the availability of acreage for the building footprint while being sensitive to the environmental impact concerns. For example, the stormwater management pond designed to meet the needs of the additional impervious runoff also serves as a passive recreational amenity as a one-acre lake with fountains.
