Project description

Soltesz provided MGM Resorts with the civil design and development services necessary to secure approval and permits for the new $1.2 billion, 1,000,000 square-foot casino, hotel, and retail center as well as surveying and road design for the surrounding interstate. Located in Prince George’s County, 1 mile south of the District of Columbia, the 22-acre site is bounded by other entertainment venues including National Harbor, a historic mansion which is a locally popular event and wedding venue, and State roads including the Capital Beltway.

This project was under heavy pressure to meet the State deadline to open. The project was committed to a tight yet remarkable 30-month construction schedule.

Soltesz provided critical entitlement and horizontal site/civil engineering services which included working closely with local agencies such as Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), Department of Permits, Inspections, and Enforcement (DPIE), and Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC). The detailed site plan (DSP) was approved at a public hearing where Soltesz provided testimony. Stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, road improvement plans, and both dry and wet utility plans were produced, submitted, negotiated, and approved under the direction of Soltesz project managers. Permits were obtained for all necessary horizontal infrastructures in compliance with the tight project schedule for what is expected to be a very significant economic engine within the local community and region.
