Ken Dunn, Vice President and Managing Member of Soltesz LLC in Lanham, Maryland, served on behalf of the Maryland Building Industry Association (MBIA) at its Annual Prince George’s County Chapter Breakfast event. A large number of builders, developers, and associate members of the building industry attended this event on March 27, 2017.  County Executive, Prince George’s County, Rushern Baker and County Council Member, Prince George’s County, Dannielle Glaros provided comments on the State of the Economy for the County and exciting new developments. Revised Soil Erosion and Sediment Control Regulation

James Soltesz, Vice-Chair to the Maryland Business Regulatory Reform Commission, was instrumental in revising the Soil Erosion and Sediment Control/Change Code of Maryland Regulations Erosion & Sediment Control Requirements.

James Soltesz, Vice-Chair to the Maryland Business Regulatory Reform Commission, was instrumental in revising the Soil Erosion and Sediment Control/Change Code of Maryland Regulations Erosion & Sediment Control Requirements.  The Maryland Register released a revised regulation on January 20, 2017. The purpose of this regulation is to amend the definition of “grading unit." Previously, the code limited the "grading unit" to 20 acres, causing unnecessary expense and delays to construction operations.  Also, the proposed changes extends the time period an approved sediment control plan is valid, eliminates the requirement that sites be inspected once every 2 weeks, and updates the handbook entitled “2011 Maryland Standards and Specifications for Soil Erosion and Sediment Control (Maryland Register, Volume 44, Issue 2, January 20, 2017).At this time, the Maryland Register is required to allow for a 30 day public comment period.  MDE expects the revisions to the 20-acre limit to be in place by the end of March 2017.Soltesz is a professional services engineering firm providing civil engineering, planning, surveying, and environmental services to public and private clients throughout the Washington Metropolitan Area.  Founded in 1980, Soltesz is headquartered in Rockville, Maryland, with six offices strategically located throughout Maryland and the District of Columbia.

A Big Win for Soltesz

Soltesz to perform surveying, planning, and civil engineering design services for non-profit organizations in the area

Soltesz is proud to announce its recent selection to perform surveying, planning, and civil engineering design services for a minimum of 10 faith based or non-profit organization sites which have applied and met the requirements for the Prince George’s County Department of the Environment Alternative Compliance Program. This project meets the provisions and is a part of the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation Grant. The engineering team at Soltesz will retrofit these sites to provide water quality treatment devices to treat previously untreated impervious area. We will also be working/coordinating with University of Maryland so that they can monitor and gather data from several of the devices.

Soltesz Secured A Big Win In St. Mary's County

Soltesz secured another win in St. Mary’s County.

The Soltesz Leonardtown office was selected to provide surveying and engineering services for the Patuxent Park Revitalization Project – Phase 5 for St. Mary’s County in Maryland. The proposed section is approximately 5,500 feet (1.04 mile) in total roadway length and will consist of the reconstruction of roads within Patuxent Park, which primarily consist of roads west of Saratoga Drive. Stormwater management retrofit of existing untreated impervious area where possible is included in the Soltesz design to help St. Mary’s County achieve its Chesapeake Bay Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) goals. Leonardtown used its road design expertise to expand into the public sector.

Improving storm water managment in Prince George's County

Prince George's County is well on its way to meeting the goal for improving the quality of stormwater management practices and Soltesz is honored to be the engineer delivering those acres. Twenty-four sites and 108 Best Management Practices (BMP) have been certified to treat 354 impervious acres! Rain gardens, sand filters, bioswales, and bioretention facilities are just some of the stormwater BMPs installed at these sites. These recently completed installations will treat, manage and reduce stormwater runoff from roofs, parking lots and other impervious surfaces, which will reduce the amount of stormwater pollution that enters into the Chesapeake Bay. Jim Soltesz attended the Committee for Montgomery's Annual Legislative Breakfast on December 15, 2016. Elected officials, government and business representatives, and community leaders throughout Montgomery County and the State of Maryland were in attendance at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center. This year's program featured a discussion with Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett, the presumptive next mayor of the City of Baltimore, Catherine Pugh, who is currently state senator, and Senator-Elect Chris Van Hollen. This is widely recognized as the unofficial kick-off to the General Assembly session.

Soltesz hosts 2017 holiday art contest at Loiederman Middle School

Soltesz was honored to host the 2017 Holiday Art Contest at Loiederman Middle School in Silver Spring, Maryland. Soltesz supports the community and the arts through our annual holiday art competition at the school in memory of Mario A. Loiederman. The sixth graders at Loiederman Middle School drew beautiful and unique pieces of art depicting scenes of "peace." Our first place winner this year is Tiani Holman for her portrayal of peace.Congratulations to Tiani Holman!
