September 9, 2019
Ribbon cutting at Washington Adventist White Oak Medical Center in MD

On August 25, 2019, Washington Adventist Healthcare opened its new White Oak Medical Center facility in Montgomery County, Maryland. Soltesz attended the hospital’s ribbon-cutting event on August 15, 2019, to celebrate the completion of a project representing several years of hard work for the many companies and agencies working together to bring this new hospital to fruition. The new hospital is located at the White Oak Science Gateway, adjacent to the FDA Headquarters, and seeks to serve as a new hub for bioscience and healthcare innovation in Montgomery County, Maryland. The new hospital is a result of the relocation of Washington Adventist’s healthcare facility in Takoma Park. The chosen location near the border of Montgomery and Prince George’s counties provides strategic access via major interconnecting roads, enhancing the hospital’s accessibility to its patients and the community. The hospital offers services in cardiology, emergency medical care, maternity, mental health, radiology, and other programs. The hospital will also provide multiple opportunities for interaction with nature; the campus features significant views of the lake on the western portion of the property, and the nature trails will allow patients, visitors, and staff to enjoy the lake’s solitude and healing effects. Gardens and other natural throughout the campus are designed to enhance the healing environment in this innovation of medicine right here in Montgomery County. The hospital’s modern design focuses on sustainability and providing an environment conducive to developing further innovative healthcare solutions. Landscaping and natural light design techniques create a natural healing environment. In addition to being one of the LEED consultants on the project, Soltesz is responsible for the research and design of LEED-NC credits and is continuing to provide support for, engineering, planning and surveying services for the new Washington Adventist Hospital.
