Project description

Corvias, the Program Manager retained Soltesz as Lead Design Engineer for Phase 1, to assist with the design of facilities to manage 2,000 untreated impervious acreage at various sites throughout the County. Soltesz has, under this program, retrofitted ordesigned numerous ponds with forebays, submerged gravel wetlands, micro bioretention, and other ESD measures to provide credentialed acreage on behalf of Prince George’s County to MDE.In Soltesz’s capacity as design engineer, the firm has also been assigned the administration of the Alternative Compliance Program for over 130 faithbased organizations, designing facilities to treat property owned by local municipalities, neighborhood streets, and county-owned property. Soltesz works with the local municipalities in a similar fashion ensuring that the administrative, planning, and elected officials are knowledgeable about the timeline and the efforts.

This effort has included outreach, negotiations, arranging for the signature of easements and covenants, public presentations, design, construction management, and as-built documents. To date Soltesz has designed an estimated:

  • 24 public school projects, for 35 acres, mostly microbio retention devices
  • 74 municipal sites pond retrofit projects, for 1944 acres
  • 19 alternative compliance program (church and non-profit organization sites) for 20 acres.

Soltesz also provided engineering peer review services for all stormwater management design work performed under the CWP, by other engineering firms based on our technical expertise.  Landscape architectural services include preparing the landscape plans to provide nutrient take up/pollutant removal, water shading, soil and shoreline stabilization, and evapotranspiration to improve water quality and functioning of the retrofitted stormwater management facilities.

Soltesz was awarded a contract renewal to continue to provide services for Phase 2 of the CWP. As most of the large and mid-size ponds were retrofitted under Phase 1, the work in Phase 2 will include stream and outfall restoration in order to maximize the amount of impervious area credit potential per site.
